BIOGRAPHY
An equine veterinarian with over 40 years experience,
Jerry H. Johnson, D.V.M. (University of Georgia), M.S. (Iowa State
University), Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Surgeons,
limits his practice to thoroughbred horses in training and related
surgeries, including arthroscopic and laser procedures. A tenured
professor prior to entering private practice in 1979 in Lexington,
Kentucky, Dr. Johnson taught equine surgery for sixteen years at five
universities: University of Pennsylvania, Iowa State University,
Kansas State University, Auburn University, and University of
Missouri.
Dr. Johnson has conducted field trial studies for
pharmaceutical companies Merck, Merial and Schering-Plough, and
served on the Kentucky Equine Drug Research Council for the
Commonwealth of Kentucky. Licensed in numerous states and Jamaica,
he currently serves on the arbitration panels for Keeneland,
Fasig-Tipton, Ocala Breeders Sales, and New York Breeders Sales. For
fourteen years, Dr. Johnson inspected yearlings for the select sale
of the Thoroughbred Breeders Association of Jamaica. Invited by the
Dubai Equine Hospital, he headed up the veterinary team in charge of
quarantine for the 2001 Dubai World Cup.
Dr. Johnson’s many publications include articles
in the American Association of Equine Practitioners Proceedings,
Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, and
Journal of Equine Medicine and Surgery. He has authored
chapters in veterinary textbooks and has lectured nationally and
internationally on equine respiratory diseases and lameness. |
